Walking up to a stranger and asking for a moment of their time to indulge your creative vision is daunting to many people. It might be that a photographers sense of what they are doing doesn’t deserve someone investing time in it. For me the image jumps out and needs to be captured. Despite the obstacles. People seem to feel that and cooperate. In no small part to the fact that inside most people are inherently helpful.
I also love the challenge and problem solving I get thrown into in doing these. Managing the location, the lighting etc, all on a very brief time frame. With a sometimes impatient subject (They are helpful, not inhuman).
So without further adieu, I give you some stranger portraits. Made in the moment, starring those that are helpful.
